Centre for Information on the Victims of World War II
The Centre for Information on the Victims of World War II was formed at the beginning of 2014.
The main task of the Centre is to assist persons looking for information concerning their next of kin repressed by the Third Reich or the Soviet Union from 1939 to 1956. The Centre does checks in the records in the IPN archival collections and entries in the electronic databases available.
Among other electronic databases used in queries by the Centre is the International Tracing Service (ITS) database containing information concerning the victims of the German occupation authorities (concentration camp inmates, prisoners of war, forced and slave labour, etc.), acquired by the Karta Centre databases of the Index of Repressed, containing information concerning Polish nationals repressed by the Soviet Union. The open internet database Straty osobowe i ofiary represji pod okupacją niemiecką (Human losses and victims of repression under German occupation), run by the Polish-German Reconciliation Foundation under the supervision of IPN, also figures among the other databases used.
An inquiry regarding the fate of close family members can be sent to the Centre via email or regular post, as well by contact form. Apart from answering the inquiries concerning the victims of World War II, the Centre cooperates with the task group of the Archive Full of Remembrance project in gathering source documentation.
