Personal Files of Collaborators

HUNGARY

Personal files of the collaborators

The Hungarian state security organs kept a central registry of collaborators, the most important document of which was the so-called Card No. 6.
State security organs had a Card No. 6 completed by every enlisted person and those persons they tried to enlist unsuccessfully (persons of “failed” enlistments). The registry did not contain those who officially collaborated either openly or due to their work, state security officers in open positions, and SZT (top secret) officers. The enlisting officer completed two copies of the card and sent both to the central registry where it was registered (and assigned an H number), then one copy was sent back and the other one remained in the central operative registry. The first copy was sent to the organ (division or independent sub-department) which employed the collaborator.
An Enlistment File was also opened for each collaborator, which contained the information about the collaborators, including data about their surveillance, enlistment, and collaboration with the political investigation bodies. Information was collected in this file in the cases of failed enlistments too.
