File cards
Card No. 1 was assigned to each file. It made the categorisation and assessment of files possible based on number, issuing department and type. Card No. 2 was completed in the cases of confidential investigation and persons wanted for arrest. Card No. 3 was completed about persons with verified incriminating information about them in the operative files. Card No. 4 was used for registering persons under investigatory procedure and persons who were convicted. Card No. 5 was used by the civilian intelligence; collaborators and persons under surveillance were registered on the same type of card. Card No. 6 was completed by state security organs about collaborators and also persons whose enlistment was unsuccessful (persons of “failed” enlistments). Card No. 7 was completed about domestic and foreign addresses of “intelligence suspicion”, including meeting points of “hostile” persons, post boxes, spy centres and addresses of intelligence organisations and persons. Card No. 8 was completed about persons and members of groups under preliminary check. Card No. 9 was used to keep record of files opened for incidents; its function was to find the links with previous incidents more easily. Card No. 10 or “Surveillance Card” was completed about a person whose activities and behaviour were continuously monitored by the state security because the person was regarded as “a hostile element posing a threat to the society. Card A was a card to keep record of “social contacts” (voluntary informants) of Division BM III/IV (Military Counterintelligence). Card No. 11, or Surveillance Sheet was completed for persons subject to surveillance based on the Surveillance File to check them with the Address and Transport Registration Department. A Surveillance Sheet was usually completed when they wanted to enlist the person on a gradual basis, or the enlistment process was postponed for other reasons. An operative surveillance card was completed about persons about whom the state security organs had incriminating or compromising data or those who were subject to confidential investigation or were convicted. The statistics card contained data, broken down by organ, about persons under investigation in operative and preliminary cases or persons found incriminated during an investigation and persons convicted for political crimes.
